November 25 marks the start of the Thanksgiving travel period
(CNN, KYMA) - Tuesday, November 25 is the start of the Thanksgiving travel period as AAA forecasts a record-setting holiday stretch between now and next Monday.
It projects almost 82 million people will venture at least 50 miles from home. That would beat last year's record.
It predicts almost 90% of people will drive, about six million will fly, and less than half that will choose other transportation.
The FAA expects Tuesday to have the most flights of this holiday period.
Projections from AAA and GasBuddy disagree about whether the number of drivers will be higher or lower than last year.
GasBuddy forecasts a decline due to economic concerns while AAA projects an increase.
