EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Many Imperial Valley residents are distraught over the closure of two departments at El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC).

One representative thinks he's on the right path to better serve the public.

Imperial Valley leaders are looking to find ways to better serve the public.

Now, District Two Supervisor Luis Plancarte is looking to establish a community forum between the Board of Supervisors, the El Centro City Council, and the concerned public.

“I was contacted by some local physicians that were very concerned about the lack of public information and the lack of public input of some of the things that were going on with the hospital," says Imperial County District Two Supervisor Luis Plancarte.

Currently, the El Centro City Council also serves as the Executive Board for ECRMC.

Further fueling speculation that decisions between the two governing bodies are not independent of one another.

Plancarte believes there is another explanation.

“I suspect that a lot of decisions are being made based on financial concerns. But there’s also the health concerns of our communities," says Plancarte.

Plancarte believes that communication between lawmakers and the public will create better cooperation.

“And I think that's part of the frustration that many residents of our community have... That they don't have enough information to see through some of these things going on," says Plancarte.

No comment was made by the El Centro City Council today, as they remained in closed session all day Tuesday.
