Semi-truck catches on fire on 32nd street
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A semi-truck caught on fire at a local gas station this afternoon in Yuma.
"We got the call at about 12:20 pm," Yuma Metro Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Woodruff said. "A semi-truck on fire, endangering the gas station, upon arrival, we did have a semi and trailer fully engulfed."
Yuma Rural Metro and the Yuma Fire Department responded to the fire call just before 12:30 p.m.
The semi caught fire while at the Speedway gas station located on East 32nd Street.
"The area is still dangerous," Yuma Fire Department Captain Victor Garcia said. "There is a lot of damage especially to the canopy."
According to Rural Metro Fire, no major damage to the building but the awning and a few pumps were destroyed.
The driver of the semi was not present or near the vehicle at the time of the fire. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
"We've got some photos we're trying to look at but we still don't have a cause as to how the fire started," Woodruff said.
The cause of the fire still remains under investigation. The gas station will try to keep a portion of the business open while clean up efforts continue.
