KYMA

YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County receives a $6 million award to support the ag industry and help improve access to the internet in rural areas.

In a press release, Yuma County mentioned the Office of Governor Ducey notified them of the award that will support the construction of a network of wireless broadband towers.

This tower network will use remote sensors, drones, satellites, artificial intelligence, and automated equipment such as AgTech for the modern agriculture industry.

The advanced equipment will help improve and support the ag industry to ensure competitiveness, productivity, sustainability, and protection of national food security say the press release.

“This is important because we have commitments from agricultural research companies throughout the world that have expressed interest in coming to Yuma County if this type of network were available,” Board of Supervisors Vice Chairman Jonathan Lines said.

The new technology will be able to use conservation efforts and improve harvesting, “It will provide us critical tools for water conservation and other challenges we face here in Yuma County,” Lines said.

Yuma County says this project will also improve access to high-speed internet in rural areas.
