COVID cases rise during holidays

The Imperial County Health Department says COVID cases have gone up since Thanksgiving

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - We are less than a week away from Christmas and the New Year being around the corner but the Imperial County says usually COVID cases start increasing and that is what Imperial County is experiencing right now.

There are currently 521 active COVID cases.

“Last week we started to see a little bit of a tapering off hospitalize case as well as related to covid,” said Rosyo Ramirez, Deputy Director for Community Health Division.

But health experts think things will get worse as we get closer to Christmas.

"Since the beginning of covid we notice around the holidays people gather and people are closer... people are traveling as well and so coming from different parts of the country," said Ramirez.

As always, if you're feeling sick, try to stay home so you're not spreading it to others.
