Car crash causing the death of a pedestrian

UPDATE: YPD has identified the 78-year-old man as Cameron Calder.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A car crash happened this morning involving a pedestrian getting hit and dying on the scene.

The Yuma Police Department (YPD) said they responded to the report of the collision Tuesday morning around 9:39 a.m. in the area of 4th Avenue and 32nd Street.

According to YPD, a 2005 Volkswagen Beetle was driven by a 62-year-old woman who was driving southbound on 4th Avenue.

When the Beetle slowed down to make a right turn, it was hit from behind by a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 54-year-old man and is a City of Yuma work vehicle, mentioned YPD.

The Chevrolet Colorado also then turned to the right hitting a 78-year-old man who was walking south on a walking path says YPD.

YPD says the 78-year-old man died on scene and that there were no other injuries reported.

Alcohol is not a factor in this collision and this case is under investigation says YPD.
