Local high school art class ornaments chosen to be displayed at the White House
SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – San Luis High School's (SLHS) art class is the only participant from Arizona chosen to display their ornaments at the White House.
The Yuma High School District (YUHSD) mentioned SLHS's art class was chosen by the U.S. National Park Service to decorate Christmas ornaments.
These ornaments will be displayed on trees, along with 58 schools in the U.S., that surround the National Christmas Tree at the White House says YUHSD.
About 19 SLHS students submitted ornaments showcasing state flowers to landmarks that represent and celebrate their home.
“When I found out my ornament was selected, I told my family about it and we were all really happy and proud,” SLHS sophomore Emily Oliveros said. “Making the ornament pushed me because I took it home and worked on it all night and I even worked on it when I was sick.”
“I was very proud of myself and my work. I was very happy and excited,” SLHS sophomore Danely Ochoa said. “I was able to experience doing artwork for something big.”
