Local California police probe series of killings

(CNN) - In California, police are trying to figure out who is behind a series of killings in the Stockton area.

Interestingly, they say five recent killings might be connected, but so far, they have not determined whether the crimes are the work of one person, or multiple people.

Lorenzo Lopez

Furthermore, A KCRA reporter visited the Stockton neighborhood, where she interviewed the brother of one of the victims, Lorenzo Lopez.

“He was there for me. He was watching out for me. I wish I could’ve watched out for him," Jerry Lopez, Lorenzo Lopez's brother, spoke.

Nevertheless, Lopez remembers his big brother.

“Just being a best friend. Being a best friend and… just being a mentor and being there for me throughout my life.”

Not only that, his whole family feels the gravity of his loss.

“My mother and father were just heartbroken from this. You know? That’s the first baby boy and I know they have so many memories of our … you, know, of him.”

When the Stockton Police Department (SPD) announced a reward money for any information regarding the killings, including his brother's, the Lopez family hope this will make a difference.

“They are working pretty hard on it. I think the chief is doing a great job. He is working real hard for the city trying to figure out what’s going on and I do appreciate you, Chief.”

Stockton Mayor responds

Straightaway, the Mayor of Stockton, Kevin Lincoln, collaborating with SPD, is hard at work trying to find the killer, or killers, responsible.

In addition, the Mayor sends a message to the community.

“To the people of Stockton, we are not going to stand in fear. We are not going to be fearful. We are not going to retreat. You’re going to be empowered.”

More specifically, Lincoln hopes that this empowerment can inspire someone to come forward and help track down the killer.

Simultaneously, Lincoln shares his condolences to the families, including the Lopez family, of those slained.

“My heart breaks for you. My heart hurts just like your heart hurts.”

So far, an $85,000 cash reward has been offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest in the investigations.
