Homicide in Winterhaven as ICSO investigates

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - On Saturday, September 24, 2022, Imperial County Sheriff's Deputies from the Winterhaven station responded to shots fired in the 1800 block of Sapphire Lane.

Accordingly, in a press release, the time of the incident was at approximately 1718 hours.

When the deputies arrived, they located two male subjects suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Furthermore, deputies, along with Officers from the Quechan Police Department (QPD), performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived on scene.

The first victim traveled to the hospital via family members while the other by paramedics to the YRMC.

However, one male subject succumbed to his wounds and died at the hospital.

The identity of the victim was Jesus Galindo, Sr. He was 41 years of age from Winterhaven.

While the identity of the second victim has yet to be named, he overcame his injuries and had been discharged from the hospital.

Fortunately, thanks to several witnesses, the ICSO and their partners located the suspected shooter, two blocks away from the crime scene.

From there, the police arrested a suspect, who is 22 years of age and from Yuma.

In addition to the murder of Galindo, the suspect has several other charges hanging over him as the police booked him.

Active investigation

Even though the police have the suspect, they are seeking help from the public as this investigation is still active.
