Calexico Fire department to host Mustache growing event

The fire department of Calexico is hosting a charity mustache growing event where proceeds will go to a local cancer resource center

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Calexico fire department association is hosting the mustache growing competition event on November 4.

The Fire Department Association welcomes all fire departments in Imperial Valley to participate in the mustache-growing competition to raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancer.

“Have a little bit of fun and also give back a little bit not just specificity to you know the people that have testicular cancer or prostate cancer but just cancer in general,” said Raul Canizales, a Calexico firefighter.

For the contest, the participants have to submit a picture of clean shaved face at the same time hold up a sign that says "Stachetober 2022", your entry donation of $20, grow your mustache all throughout the month of October and attend the award ceremony.

Participants can submit their picture at hoseman009@yahoo.com and send their entry donation to Venmo QR.

Canizales said the donation money will go to a local cancer resource center.
