Kofa High School student selected as a member of the Arizona Youth Arts Council
Aiyana Polk was selected as a member of the 2022-2023 Arizona Youth Arts Council
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Kofa High School sophomore Aiyana Polk was chosen to be a member of the Arizona Youth Arts Council on behalf of the Arizona Commission of the Arts where she and 15 other students will advise the Arts Commission on grant programs, initiatives and creating projects for their communities.
The Yuma Union High School District mentioned that members of the council will be able to learn about policy to advocate for equal access to the arts for all of the youth in Arizona, they will also be able to create arts and media projects highlighting the arts in their communities.
Aiyana Polk, a sophomore student has been a part of the art club at Kofa since her freshman year and is now Vice President of the club.
She has also recently won second place in the Veteran of Foreign Wars' local Patriotic Art contest, Polk is the second Kofa student to be a member of the Youth Arts Council since 2020.
“My favorite thing to do is Art. It helps with my anxiety and helps to clear my mind,” Polk said. “I have been doing art since I was very young. It has always been my passion."
“I am happy Aiyana was selected as I know she will benefit from this learning experience in this long-term life experience!” KHS art teacher Amy Seeley said. “I know she will represent us well.”
