Vincent Memorial rolls past Zorros, improve to 4-0

Junior QB Jacobo Elias leads Scots past CETYS Mexicali 42-21 on Thursday night

CALEXICO, Calif. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - On Thursday night the Vincent Memorial Scots hosted CETYS Mexicali at Ward Field. The Zorros fresh off an upset win in Holtville on Saturday looked to do the same to the 3-0 Vincent Memorial Scots.

"We're not worried," Scots head coach David Wong said. "We're ready and the team is focused."

Wong said this season he's had the most kids ever to come out to play football.

"Usually we're at around 60," Wong said. "This year we're over 80, it's my biggest roster ever. We have over 40 players on the JV as well."

On the Scots opening drive, the Zorros forced a punt, senior punter Jose Guevara did a fantastic job of handling the low snap to get the kick off. CETYS motioned for a fair catch but the catch was muffed. The Scots went back on offense and punched in the first score of the night on fourth and goal from the Zorro one yard line. Sophomore Roberto Carranza snuck into the endzone and Jacobo Elias added the extra point giving the Scots and early 7-0.

On the Zorros next possession, the Scots defense would force a turnover, putting the ball back in the hands of Elias and once again he delivered, this time a strike in the back of the endzone to Carlos Mota. The Scots never looked back en route to a 42-21 win.

The Scots next will travel to Bonita Vista next Friday, September 23rd.
