Yuma Union High School District back to ‘normalcy’ this school year

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - It's the first day of school at Cibola High and students tell us they're feeling excited.

One senior says this feels like the first normal year since the covid pandemic hit when she was just a freshman.

Kaylee Woods says along with being Cibola’s Student Body President, she’s the founder of a club she started to bring students together during the pandemic.

“I’m the founder of my own club called the Cibola Yellow Ribbon Club. It’s the first mental health club on campus. I started that my sophomore year during zoom I noticed that mental health’s at a decline and so I decided to start it over zoom to try to get people more involved with each other,” said Woods.

Woods says she is looking forward to her final year of high school, finally able to get that full high school experience.

Mrs. Manifold says she is looking forward to developing in person relationships with her students.

“It has been hard the last couple of years because we’ve had attendance issues and all sorts of things with people being sick, but now that it’s a little bit more normal, I’m really looking forward to having those relationships with my kids,” said Manifold.

YUHSD has over 11-thousand students, with more than 25-hundred at Cibola.

Principal Bosch encourages incoming freshman to make the most of their time at Cibola.

“Try to get involved, try to become part of a club, part of a team and in four years when you graduate if you’re a freshman, you can say you had a good experience as a Cibola Raider,” said Bosch.
