Humane Society of Imperial County urges residents to keep an eye on pets during firework season

KYMA

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - We call it the Fourth of July but the Humane Society calls it an explosion of fear for pets.

The Humane Society of Imperial County says it sees time and time again fireworks causing pets to flee their homes and onto the streets.

Devon Apodaca recalls last fourth of July, the humane society was over capacity due to dogs and cats scattering the streets.

Make sure that pets remain indoors at all times if possible, for pets that must remain outdoors make sure all gates and fences are locked and secured.

Apodaca says residents should make sure their pets have proper identification in case they do run away they are easily able to be traced back to you.
