Rep. Vargas makes statement regarding migrant deaths in tractor-trailer
Congressman Juan Vargas discusses immigration policies and its effect on migrants
SAN ANTONIO, Tex. (KYMA, KECY) - Representative Juan Vargas (D-California) releases a statement regarding the 50 migrants found dead in the tractor-trailer in San Antonio, Texas and mentions the broken immigration system.
“This preventable tragedy is horrifying and heartbreaking,” said Rep. Vargas. “My thoughts are with the victims, survivors, and the families of those lost. For far too long, we have seen how cruel Trump-era immigration policies have harmed immigrants coming to the United States seeking safety, refuge, and better opportunities. Representing the U.S.-Mexico border in California, I have seen firsthand how immigrants have been subjected to injury or death due to our outdated immigration laws. We are long overdue for fixing our broken immigration system and restoring humanity to our immigration process. The time is now to address these issues and prevent further tragedies from taking place. I remain committed to fighting for comprehensive immigration reform in Congress, and urge the Biden Administration and DHS to repeal all harmful Trump-era immigration policies.”
