Law at the forefront of Imperial County elections

Results now coming in - News 11's Wiley Jawhary reports from the recorder's office

IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Election night in California as the primary is now under way. The law and how it's handled across the Imperial Valley seems to be a concern to many residents.

For the Imperial County Sheriff's Office, two candidates are competing for Sheriff.

Undersheriff Fred Miramontes and former ICSO deputy Hilton Smith have been campaigning heavily over the last few months.

Both know the heavy lifting will start when either of them is elected to the position.

"Certainly, work with our different department heads in the imperial valley and behavioral health to continue that hard focus on the mental health problem that exists in imperial county," Miramontes said.

"I want to increase patrol in the outline areas in imperial county, those are the things I campaigned about, those are the things I promised the citizens of the imperial county that I would do when I become the sheriff of imperial county, and I would maintain that promise to the people of Imperial County," Smith said.
