One dead near Brawley after car crash on State Route 78

Highway Patrol mentions one person who wasn't wearing their seatbelt

BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - California Highway Patrol says one person died after being ejected from their vehicle during a car crash.

On June 5, at about 7:05 a.m., a driver in a Hyundai Elantra was traveling on Butters Road near State Route 78, when a Toyota Tacoma drove onto the path of the Hyundai.

The Tacoma hit the left side of the Hyundai, causing its driver to be ejected due to not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash also caused the Tacoma to overturn into a nearby canal.

The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead on scene while the Tacoma's driver only had minor injuries.

CHP says the crash is still under investigation and impairment does not seem to be a factor in the crash.
