Six arrested after tunnel is found to be used for drug trafficking

Tunnel discovered in warehouse

SAN DIEGO (KYMA, KECY) - Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) have found a tunnel stretching over 1,700 feet long, which led to the arrest of six people for conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

HSI were investigating a National City home that was previously used a stash house, when two people were seen driving away from the home in a pickup truck.

Law enforcement officials from HSI then followed the people to a warehouse 300 feet north of the U.S./Mexico border fence.

Multiple cars stopped by the warehouse and anyone caught was then arrested.

HSI says the six people arrested have been charged with cocaine trafficking, with two of them having extra charges of meth and heroin trafficking.

The tunnel ran from Tijuana, Mexico to Otay Mesa and it's said to have a rail system plus a ventilation system.

Over 1,700 pounds of cocaine were found along with 164 pounds of meth and 3.5 pounds of heroin.
