Kari Lake, candidate for Governor, visits Yuma
Fox 9's Adam Klepp spoke to Lake on Main Street about her ambitions to become Governor, and plans for border security
YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - Just like the weather, the Governor’s race is heating up with Kari Lake visiting Yuma.
Border and water Security are top of mind as she also visited neighborhoods and knocked on doors encouraging locals to vote.
One member of the neighborhood, who has lived in Yuma for 13 years, says he hasn’t decided who he’s going to vote for yet but he’s leaning Lake.
"She’s very outspoken and is not afraid to say what she thinks. It may go against the grain against what people think but that’s ok too,” Mick Gugulomo said.
Lake also visited the border wall, as border security is one of her campaign's top priorities.
"We need to my policy when it comes to the border and get it happening right now in arizona,” Lake said.
Part of that plan would be to finish the border wall, and expand the mission of the Arizona National Guard, currently at the border but in a support role only.
Lake also wants to empower local sheriffs to deputize Arizonans.
“We have a lot of good men and women, who have served in the military or law enforcement, there’s no reason why we can’t deputize them and have them serve alongside sheriffs, especially in these counties at the border,” Lake continued.
As for the coming primary, and the general election, Lake says she has the upper hand.
"I feel very confident, we’re the lead in this race, we’re head and shoulders above in polling, and we’ve raised more money than any other candidate in the race,” Lake said.
