UPDATE: Fire spreads to at least eight mobile homes in Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Fire Department (YFD) responded to a fire that spread to eight mobile homes at a mobile home park at 2002 West 8th Street.

On Tuesday, at about 8:15 p.m., firefighters arrived on scene.

The fire spread rapidly due to extremely strong winds and narrow lots within the mobile home park.

YFD says the fire took at least two hours to contain.

The Yuma Police Department closed down surrounding streets while the fire was still burning and YFD remained on scene throughout the night as they continued to take down flare-ups and hotspots.

Firefighters arrived from Imperial County Fire Department, Marine Corps Air Station Fire Department and the Rural Metro Fire Department to help fight the fire.

YFD reports eight mobile homes were harshly damaged or destroyed and a different RV-type trailer had exterior damage.

No injuries were reported and a dog was rescued from the RV.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide assistance to those affected and displaced by the fire.

An American Red Cross representative says six families were assisted with their immediate needs and in finding lodging. They are expecting to aid more families.

YFD investigators are searching for the cause of the fire.

The National Weather Service issued a "Red Flag" warning for Yuma on Tuesday.

This type of warning brings attention to conditions like high winds, low humidity and high temperatures that add to a rapid-fire spread.
