The Desert Elite Basketball Club isn't for the seasonal athlete

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - For those that played youth sports the routine was usually the same. You either play an alternate sport during the off-season or take a break.

Neither one of those scenarios works for the Desert Elite Basketball Club. DE athletes have to be committed to the sport.

During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, while gyms were closed DE Coach Justin Patane build his own makeshift gym and training arena at his home.

The Desert Elite Basketball Club plays against teams on an international level and tournaments happen all year long. But, in order to be able to compete, the teams need money.

One of the biggest fundraisers for the Desert Elite Basketball Club is its annual raffle. Prizes are donated by sponsors and each year the team takes to the Yuma County Fair to sell tickets.

Prizes for this year's raffle include a 12ga. Pump-Action Shotgun, a 9mm Ruger, and a barbecue grill. Tickets are just $10 and will be on sale up until the drawing on April 3.

The Desert Elite Basketball Club booth is located inside the Theater Building on the west end of the fairgrounds.
