Imperial Irrigation District (IID) says it's time to conserve energy - News 11's Wiley Jawhary reports

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Temperatures are on the rise and the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) is asking residents in the coming months to use their energy wisely.

The last major blackout in the Imperial Valley as a result of heat was Labor Day weekend in 2020. The IID says they did not have circuit overloads last summer.

Robert Schettler with the IID says conserving energy will be essential to avoid a blackout.

"Everyone who lives here needs that air conditioning, so it is paramount the IID conserves that energy to meet that demand," he explained.

News 11's Wiley Jawhary will share tips to keep your homes cool and conserve energy on the Evening Edition at 6 p.m. PST.
