U.S. Senate candidate visits Yuma
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - United States senate candidate, Jim Lamon, from Arizona, visited Yuma today to host a Latino coalition roundtable event.
Lamon discussed immigration, jobs, water issues and agriculture, topics that impact Yuma on a daily basis.
Jim Lamon is a veteran, serving six years as an army airborne officer, with three of those years in Germany during the Cold War.
Lamon sold his company at the end of 2021 to focus on his run for senate.
He it's his eighth trip to Yuma since he began his campaign.
Hosting a roundtable discussion full of local Latino business owners.
“Just from a standpoint of the Latino vote, the Hispanic side, I’m all in. My company looks just like America when I built it 1,732 percent, Latino Americans, I’m out here with them, hands on kinda guy, going through these policies with them as well," said Lamon.
Local business owners were able to address Lamon with any concerns they had regarding their line of work.
“We packed the room as you can see back there, standing room only, because they also are concerned about water, about illegal immigration, they want a good visa program. I get that and that’s gotta be a part of our plan, explained Lamon.
The candidate continued to speak on the issues of immigration and water, the top two priorities on his list when it comes to Yuma.
“We have a great legal immigration system in this country, it’s the most powerful on earth, we must secure that southern border. Number two water, I’m a big infrastructure guy. I’ve been fortunate to be in business all my life after six years military officer, building big coal, gas, solar power plants. I know about infrastructure," said Lamon.
There are currently eight other republican candidates running for U.S. Senate in Arizona, so the competition is tough.
Winning republican candidate will then run against a democratic candidate in November.
The 2022 Arizona primary election will take place on Aug. 2, to elect the next U.S. senator for Arizona, among other positions at the local, state and federal level.
