Harvest Preparatory Academy brings cultures together with ‘Christmas Around The World’ Event

The drive through light show was created with the intention of exposing children to other cultures - 13 On Your Side's Luis Lopez reports

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Saturday night Christmas celebrations from all over the world were brought together in Yuma. The Harvest Preparatory Academy held its 'Christmas Around The World' event on Saturday evening.

This event was a Christmas light show which people drove through to experience. Each display featured a different depiction of various countries.

Executive Director of Harvest Preparatory Debi Ybarra says that they wanted to feature celebrations from around the globe to help introduce children to other cultures.

“You know, the more we progress as in our country, we’re getting a lot more global. Kids are now leaving and going to other countries to get jobs. There’s no more 'send your resume down the street' or 'even the next state;' so we’re just kind of celebrating that ethnic diversity, making sure the kids understand that we’re a globe and we all need to share together.”

The light show was originally created as a walk-through event, but changed to a drive-through experience last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
