The Imperial County Board of Supervisors recently approved the map that changes district boundaries - 13 On Your Side's Vince Ybarra reports

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KECY, KYMA) - Changes are coming to Imperial County. The district map that was recently approved has some changes that will affect residents.

Rebecca Terrazas-Baxter, Imperial County Intergovernmental Relations Director, said there were changes to the city of Calexico and the east side of Imperial County.

"The districts had to change because there was some increase in population in certain areas in our county that was reflected in the census," said Terrazas-Baxter.

She said the county-based the new map on the data collected by the U.S. census.

Terrazas-Baxter said it's important for folks to know about redistricting because it impacts Imperial County residents directly.

"Basically what you're deciding on is to redraw boundaries for specific district where the public resides," said Terrazas-Baxter.

Thursday on 13 On Your Side at 6 p.m., Vince Ybarra shares how the county maps out the new district boundaries.
