Southwest High School prepares for Halloween
IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - With Halloween right around the corner, schools across the Imperial Valley are starting to get spooky. Southwest High School's orchestra is preparing for its annual Halloween concert.
Pumpkins can be seen once more on the streets across the Imperial Valley. Southwest High School's orchestra is getting ready for a concert that brings together families and children to enjoy the sounds of Halloween.
Dr. Matthew Busse has been the director of the orchestra for 14 years. He says this event is special because it serves the entire community and that his students are looking forward to it.
“What we’re going to do is play movies from Halloween and the kids came up with the idea hey why don’t we have people dress up,” he said.
Lorelei Lara plays the violin, she echoed her director's excitement.
“Our last concerts have been really big, our last concert sold out both nights so everyone is really excited about this one especially since it is Halloween,” she said.
Dante Villegas is also a student of the orchestra. He plays the viola and says this experience is one not to miss.
“We’re hoping to have visuals and cool decorations so It should be a cool experience,” he said.
Dr. Busse says these orchestra students work hard to bring joy to others while also doing what they love.
"I’ve been playing for a long time so it's been integrated into my life and the way I see the world, it’s a way I can relieve stress I love it," Lara said.
Dr. Busse says this concert will be different.
"We always associate great music with movies, so I said why don’t we combine them and give them something interesting to watch while we are playing," he said.
The concert will be on October 30th at 7 p.m at the school's theater. Tickets are now on sale.
