Yuma’s NAACP president invites everyone out to its Juneteenth celebration

Eleanor Sayles wants everyone, especially children, to come out and enjoy

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - With the exception of 2020, Juneteenth has been celebrated each and every year. In most cases, the event is held at Carver Park located in Yuma's west end.

The event brings people from all walks of life and of all races. It's a day of unity and hope.

This year, the Juneteenth celebration will be at Carver Park (13th Avenue & 3rd Street). The Yuma Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People expressed she was wary that the event was going to happen.

NAACP President Eleanor Sayles had reached out for sponsors and was coming up short. But, at the final hour, local attorney and philanthropist Candy Camerena sponsored the event's raffle.

Nova Home Loans also stepped in to provide the event with entertainment.

Sayles wants the public to know that Juneteenth is an American holiday. This year, the event if focusing on our youth and educating them about our country's rich history.

The event is set to kick off at 5 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.
