The Better Business Bureau wants to help protect senior citizens
The Better Business Bureau in coordination with the Elder Abuse Coalition will host events throughout June
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation each year senior citizens are defrauded out of an estimated $3 billion. June is World Elderly Abuse Awareness month and local groups want to do their part to protect yourself and your loved ones.
According to the FBI scammers use scare tactics to coerce their victims into sending them money. In most cases the criminals operate outside of law enforcement's reach.
So, the Better Business Bureau and the Elderly Abuse Coalition are reaching out to the community to inform and prepare them. During the month of June, the coalition will host a series of presentations centered around fraud protection for seniors.
