On the road again

May 2-8 is National Tourism and Travel Week

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It's the lifeline to our economy and each year tourism dollars make up a huge part of a city's budget. Here in the Desert Southwest, tourism is the third largest money-maker, right after agriculture and the military.

Each year the U.S. Travel Association holds its National Tourism and Travel Week. Starting Sunday May 2 and until May 8, communities across the country will push for their residents to take a trip.

In Yuma, Visit Yuma is the go-to when it comes to learning about our area. So, they're asking residents for a few favors.

First, Visit Yuma is asking residents to share their travel experiences on any of the Visit Yuma social media platforms. Secondly, their asking that if you do come into contact with a tourist that you make the best impression possible.

U.S. Travel Association has a detailed strategy to promote travel and commerce during NTTW. Each day will have a different element and they'll be encouraging people to use the hashtag #poweroftravel whn posting online.
