"Even though it has been affected by COVID-19, it was an immense honor to have found out I made such a talented ensemble with fantastic players," Mercado shares.

He has been in the West Region Band for three consecutive years. This year the event was held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions, but Mercado was still thrilled to have been accepted.

"It has been a result of many years of stress, dedication and perseverance," he continues. "It has been a dream of mine to perform in this band and I'm glad to say my dream has become a reality."

Argenis' next move will be to audition for the Phoenix Youth Symphony Orchestra and ensembles at the University of Arizona, where he will attend in the fall.

The All-State performance will take place virtually on May 1, at 11 a.m. He is the only Yuma-area musician to make All-State band this year.
