Family loses daycare and home to fire in Imperial

Imperial County daycare and home burns down

Customers and community react to news of the blaze - News 11's Wiley Jawhary reports

IMPERIAL VALLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County families where shocked to learn their favorite day care center was hit by fire. Now they're sharing their sadness and concern for the family who ran the business out of their home.

The fire broke out just after 3 Thursday afternoon in the 600 block of Worthington road, just outside the city of Imperial.

Maria Becerra has a 3-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter who attended the daycare. She says this situation hurts most because the operators treated them like family.

"When I took them to this daycare, it was just that vibe that my kids were meant to go there... I was called yesterday if I wanted to take my kids somewhere else, and I said no," Becerra said.

Not only did the owners lose their business, but they also lost their home.
