Calexico, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Calexico City Manager David Dale has resigned following allegations that he was getting paid to work for the Borrego Springs water district.

He announced his resignation in a Calexico city council meeting last night.

His resignation becomes effective August 1st.

In June the Imperial Valley press reported Dale had previously acknowledged he had been offered a contract with the Borrego Springs Water District on Feb. 25

Dale said he had assisted the district on his own time a few Saturdays and Sundays on a minimal basis and for no charge.

Dale denies receiving money for his work with the Borrego Springs Water district while he was working for Calexico.

“I always acted like every dollar we spent here, every decision we made as if I owned the city as if I owned it myself. I took personal responsibility,” said David Dale during resignation speech.

“As he stated he wanted to move on and umm we respect his reason and we thank him for all the work he’s done for Calexico which is a lot," said Camilo Garcia, Councilman.

The council unanimously voted 5-0 to appoint Assistant City Manager Miguel Figueroa as the new city manager

Figueroa says he wants to focus on completing projects he was already working on and transitioning into his new role.

“Pretty much we want to transition now. We want to do things the right way. The City Council umm went with the session plan that had been in place that's why this should be a smooth transition,” said Figueroa.
