YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY) - News 11 brought you the story of Yuma Native, Martika Bernal, a mother-to-be who underwent unexpected brain surgery last week in the middle of a global pandemic.

It's been a week since Bernal's surgery and since then she's had to face multiple challenges she didn't think she would face. After surgery, Bernal's right side of her body is unresponsive and is now only able to walk with a cane. Bernal is also experiencing speech problems due to her surgery.

The road to recovery for Bernal will now take several more months as she endures physical therapy three times a week. However, she said she's lucky. She tells News 11 that her baby girl is giving her the strength she needs to push forward.
