Mexicali faces COVID-19 outbreak in nursing home

MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY)-COVID-19 outbreak hits Carlos Canseco nursing home in Mexicali.

Carlos Canseco nursing home in Mexicali that houses 59 seniors, recently registered a coronavirus outbreak.

There are currently 59 seniors living in the nursing home. However, seven seniors have lost their lives to the virus and 15 have been infected.

The Director of Integral Development for the municipal family (DIF), María Elena Araiza, says strict measures were taken to stop the infections.

She assures the outbreak is under control and the seven seniors who were in isolation overcame the disease but were re-admitted to the hospital.

Araiza says that due to the contagions registered in the nursing home, sanitation, and hygiene measures were increased. Access to authorized personnel was restricted because it was a vulnerable population.

The asylum Carlos Canseco is located in the Janitzio ejido in Mexicali.

The measures will remain as long as the health authorities and the traffic light do not indicate any changes.
