MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY)-Dead bodies are being loaded into refrigerated trucks outside the hospital in Mexicali as the death toll from COVID-19 rises.

The refrigerated box known as Thermo King was installed in order to move the bodies in case the hospital becomes saturated.

The truck is guarded by police officers 24 hours a day.

In a statement, the Director of the General Hospital, Fernando Ovalle, clarified that the bodies were loaded into the truck due to sanitizing reasons as part of hygiene prevention measures.

Furthermore, the Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, reported on Monday that the General Hospital was at a hospital capacity of just over 91 percent.

He says the installation of a refrigerated box for the operation of the mortuary is part of the strategy that the health sector is carrying out in response to the infections and deaths that occur during the pandemic.
