IMPERIAL, Calif (KYMA, KECY)-Imperial Valley College's gymnasium will be serving as Imperial County's Federal Medical Station (FMS).

The Imperial County Health Department started setting up the station this weekend with help from California's Emergency Medical Services Authority.

According to the health department, the FMS will have at least 80 beds.

“It's for low acuity patients so generally, these are patients that are almost ready for hospital discharge. skilled nursing facility type of care. for a period of a few days or weeks until they're ready to go home," said Chris Herring, Emergency Medical Services manager.

The county is hoping the FMS will help alleviate some of the burden at our local hospitals.
