Cases continue to rise statewide

MEXICALI, Baja California (KYMA, KECY) - On Tuesday the Baja California Secretary of Health announced the latest coronavirus (COVID-19) statistics in the state.

Baja California now has 3,458 cases statewide, with 590 deaths and 643 recoveries.

In Mexicali, 21 percent of all patients who tested positive so far have now recovered, according to health officials. This amounts to 314 individuals. The death toll is now at 134.

Numbers are higher in Tijuana, where there are now 1,634 cases, 405 deaths, and 279 recoveries.

Mexicali hospitals serving COVID-19 patients have reached 65 percent capacity, Baja California Health officials report, saying hospitals could reach maximum capacity as infection rates continue to rise in the city.

This update comes a day after the Baja California Secretary of Health announced the state is currently looking into criteria for the eventual reopening of the state.

Baja California currently has a "Red Light" status, the worst category in terms of the virus' impact in the state.

Therefore the government is advising citizens to act as though a quarantine is still in effect:
