Local group donates face shields to local hospital

Yuma chapter of Fuerza Immigrante joins forces with Los Angeles group to donate much needed PPE

SAN LUIS, RIO COLORADO, Mexico (KYMA, KECY) - A local immigration advocacy group is lending its support to the fight against coronavirus.

Fuerza Immigrante is a non-profit that provides assistance and outreach programs to immigrants living in the United States. It recently teamed up with with Los Angeles-based Federacion Sonora-USA to provided much needed face masks to frontline workers in San Luis, Mexico.

The groups delivered a total of 60 face shields to San Luis Rio Colorado's General Hospital.

Fuerza Immigrante's Gary Snyder talked about the motivation behind the donation.

"We noticed that in the states there's a lot of funding um extra, not now but in time and as soon as possible. But, in Mexico the funding is kind of short and they don't move as fast. So we wanted to help out the community especially with the border crossing around here. When we go to San Luis it's always nice to give back to the community." said Snyder.

Mexico currently has nearly 17,000 cases of coronavirus. San Luis Rio Colorado has 131 cases.
