MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY)-Families of inmates raise concerns due to the 39 suspected cases of coronavirus and 3 deaths at the Center for Social Reintegration (CERESO) in Mexicali.

Families say the prisoners have manifested the lack of medical attention that is inside the prison, as well as the lack of care so that the disease does not spread among the inmates.

Health officials from the Ministry of Health assured that a group of epidemiologists were assigned to CERESO where 39 prisoners were isolated.

As well as 8 CERESO staff-members.

In regards to the 2 deaths of the prisoners, health authorities mentioned that they did not recognize that the causes were due to the coronavirus, but due to pneumonia.

However, one more death was reported at CERESO this week.

The family of the deceased prisoner claimed that he was treated for coronavirus. Since the quarantine began, family visits to CERESO have been suspended.
