Agents seize more than 50-pounds of the drug

WELLTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - U.S. Border Patrol agents made a big bust Tuesday evening at the immigration checkpoint on Interstate 8.

Agents say a drug-sniffing dog alerted them to a problem with a Dodge sedan. The car moved into secondary inspection, and that's when agents say they discovered a cache of methamphetamine.

Agents say the found 50 packages of the drug hidden in the car's passenger and driver side rocker panels. The meth weighed in at more than 56 pounds. It has an estimated street value of $113,000.

Border Patrol identifies the 38-year-old male driver as a Lawfully Admitted Permanent Resident (LAPR) from Mexico. Agents arrested him on drug smuggling charges, and seized both the car and the drugs.
