CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA,KECY) - This mother's day hundred will be crossing the border to see their loved ones on the other side.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection reminds the public that travel restrictions extended on April 20 remain in place as Mother’s Day approaches.

Travel related to tourism or visiting a friend is deemed non-essential

Carmen Valle who is visiting a sick relative in Mexicali she says that while her current visit isn’t necessarily essential she does agree with CBP restrictions.

“I know that we are doing more harm coming in and out of the house. But many times it's not out of choice some people have to but many people come for things that aren’t essential like me who is seeing someone sick but regardless many people don’t even believe this virus is real but we should still be careful.”

For Alvarez who works and lives in the U.S., he said while he would want to visit his mother in Mexicali he’s afraid he’ll get her sick.

“No, because if I happen to have the virus if i go there i can give it to my parents and the risk isn’t worth it.”

CBP says if you want to determine whether your travel is essential to check the federal register.gov.
