MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY)-Health officials in Baja California predict the worst is yet to come as Mexicali is now in phase 3 of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to health officials in Baja California, phase 3 is an epidemic that involves thousands of people being infected by the virus. Officials say the spread of the community and the transmission of the virus is greater.

The Ministry of Health in Baja California predicts the next two weeks will be the most crucial weeks because of the contagion.

Given this situation in Mexicali, a temporary hospital was installed at the
Baja California Polytechnic University with a capacity for 30 patients in the process of recovery.

Previously, a hospital camp had been installed at the Medical School of the Autonomous University of Baja California, however, the tents ended up being used as part of the infrastructure of the COVID-19 Diagnostic Center.

The temporary hospital already has the beds and equipment necessary to care for patients who are transferred from the General Hospital. It is expected that it will become operational at any time after the General Hospital has exceeded its capacity to serve COVID-19 patients.

As of Tuesday, Mexicali has 691 cases and 65 deaths.
