California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan to re-open state

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - California Governor Gavin Newsom releases a 4-step plan to reopen businesses, schools, and childcare facilities amid the pandemic.

Although there isn't an exact timeline, Gov. Newsom said some businesses could be open in weeks.

Holtville resident Rose says she agrees with the governor's plan.

“I personally agree I think we do need to re-open some of our businesses for the economy but I think we should do it gradually.”

The first phase is to expand testing, make workplaces safe for return, make masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) more widely available.

The second phase is the opening of some retail, schools, manufacturing, offices, and public spaces, with social-distancing rules.

Holtville resident Bob says he agrees with the plan but it is too soon for the kids to go back to school.

“As long as it's in a couple of weeks and and the amount of people getting infected decreases then I think its a good thing. I don’t think the kids should go back to school though.”

The third phase would involve the opening of higher-risk businesses, such as gyms, hair and nail salons, and movie theaters.

The last phase would be opening the highest-risk businesses, such as concert venues, convention centers, and sports with live audiences

All of these phases would incorporate some form of social distancing and masks.

Newsom says he also plans to move up the school year for students.
