EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The El Centro Police Department (ECPD) wants the public to be aware of coronavirus test fraud.

ECPD says to be aware of individuals who contact you in person, by phone, or email about the government reqiring you take a coronavirus (COVID-19) test.

These are likely scammers trying to get your personal information, including your insurance number and other sensitive information.

ECPD suggests if you are ill, a physician or other trusted health care provider will decide if you require coronavirus testing.

Some scammers are even selling fraudulent coronavirus at-home test kits, going door-to-door and performing fake tests on people for money.

Real tests are offered free to patients when carried-out by a healthcare professional.

If you think you are a victim of coronavirus fraud, contact ECPD's non-emergency line at (760) 352-2111.
