New Rio Nuevo bridge to improve border crossing
MEXICALI, B.C., MEXICO (KYMA, KECY)-A new vehicle bridge near the West Port of Entry in Mexicali is now in operation.
The Rio Nuevo Bridge has been in the works for several months.
It’s part of a project by the Federal Government to improve and modernize the Rio Nuevo Border Crossing.
The new project will drastically improve traffic flow in the area for cars coming in and out of Mexicali.
The project also included two new Sentri lanes and a new medical lane for drivers.
According to Mexicali Customs, about 13,000 vehicles cross the West port of entry every day.
This is only the first phase of the Rio Nuevo Border Crossing project.
The next phase that is set to start in April, will work on improving the pedestrian border crossing.
According to Mexicali Customs, the project being carried out by Mexico’s federal government is estimated to cost $16 million dollars.
