SALTON CITY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)- 26 undocumented immigrants are found hidden inside a semi-truck at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint Wednesday.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) says a 32-year-old man was driving a tractor-trailer through the checkpoint when a canine alerted to the rear cargo of area of the trailer. The man was sent to secondary for further inspection of his trailer.

After agents opened the cargo area of the truck, they discovered 26 people inside the bed of the trailer.

Agents say the people were locked inside the trailer with no safety restraints and no way to extricate themselves from the inside.

After agents removed the individuals from the truck, the 32-year-old was arrested for being in possession of a fake California driver's license. Agents say they later determined the driver was a Mexican national that was illegally present in the U.S.

CBP says two out of the 26 undocumented immigrants traveling in the truck are minors.
