Men arrested for smuggling liquid meth

(CBP) Border Patrol detects methamphetamine in liquid form.

SALTON CITY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Border Patrol agents at the Highway 86 checkpoint arrested two men suspected of smuggling liquid meth.

It happened Sunday afternoon, when a 25-year-old driver accompanied by 18-year-old passenger tried to cross the checkpoint undetected.

However a Border K-9 alerted agents to their Chevy Silverado, causing agents to send the pair to secondary.

Upon a thorough search of the truck, Border Patrol agents found methamphetamine in liquid form mixed-in with the vehicle's fuel tank.

CBP says the total weight and value of the meth remain unconfirmed until lab results are finalized.

“This seizure highlights the importance of our checkpoints," said Gloria I. Chavez, Chief Patrol Agent of the El Centro Sector.

"It also speaks to the outstanding work that Border Patrol agents do on a daily basis to keep our country safe and protect communities."

The two men, both U.S. citizens, the narcotics an vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. (DEA).
