YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Yuma Region Bicycle Coalition invites you to participate in the Tour de Fields, an agricultural bicycle event on February 29 at Gateway Park.

This family-friendly event guides cyclists through Yuma's agriculture in a unique way.

There will be a 60-mile, 30-mile, and 10-mile ride, plus a 5k course with posters identifying crops along the route.

Organizers say it's not a race, but with cyclists, it's always a competition and they'll be riding for a good cause.

Charles Cowan of the Tour de Fields' planning committee, said half of the net proceeds will go towards scholarship funds for local students who will be pursuing a degree in agriculture or agricultural-related degrees with the University of Arizona.

"That’s a way of getting their foot in the door as well. We’re all about local." Cowan said.

Yuma Regional Medical Center Cancer Resources will receive the other half of the net proceeds.

Cowan says registration has significantly grown from last year.

To register, visit swsportsreg.com.

This year, the event received an outpour of local cash and in-kind donations.

Organizers are already in talks of partnering with the city of Somerton for a Tour de Fields 2021.
