Attempt to help actually hurt victim

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Phoenix police say a man who collapsed on a street died after being run over by the woman who stopped to help him.

Officers say the driver saw 34-year-old Michael Phillips fall to the ground after suffering some sort of medical emergency Thursday, and quickly stopped her car to assist him. Unfortunately, they say, in her haste to help, she forgot to put the car in park. The car then ran over him.

Phillips later died at the hospital. The Maricopa County medical examiner has yet to determine his exact cause of death.

Police aren't releasing the driver's name. They do say she's 55-years-old.
