IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY), On March 3rd Imperial County residents will be voting for important seats on the county board of supervisors.

Vying for district 2 on the county board of supervisors is incumbent Luis Plancarte and former county employee Claudia Camarena.

At a public forum moderated by IVC students, both candidates discussed
what they will bring to the table.

Plancarte talked about the 40 years of experience he has serving the community.

“I attend just about every meeting I can that is related to our community. Trying to empower and trying to hear and giving people the opportunity to speak. I can tell you that you will not find anybody out there that is more accessible," said Luis a. Plancarte.

Camarena, if elected, would be the only woman on the board of supervisors.

She focused on job growth and how she plans to increase opportunities for new business owners.

“As a board of supervisor I pledge to work full time, I don't have a job. I would be on sight full time looking for incentive money to bring money and vocational schools. So people can learn to be self employed," said Claudia Camarena.

She also pledged to donate part of her salary to community programs.

Both candidates were also asked to address solutions for homelessness in the Imperial Valley.

“Over the next ten years to try and have 1,000 new homes that are affordable housing," said Plancarte.

“And immediately make a shelter. How can it be that this county doesn't have a sufficient homeless shelter. It boggles my mind to see that," said Camarena

Quality of life and public service programs were also hot topics discussed in the forum.

The candidate that wins the seat for District 2 will represent residents that live in El Centro, Calexico, Heber, as well as residents in the Ocotillo area.
